It was disappointingly dull and grey when I got to Baginbun in early June after months of COVID 19 lockdown. And after weeks of drought, everything was a bit brown too and there were hardly any seasonal "sea pinks", that magic carpet of colour that usually lines the cliffs this time of year. So I struggled to find anything to paint and then I got interested in the underwater rocks as I looked down into the near still water. Hence the title "Down There". The sun started to come through about fifteen minutes after I started painting, adding a bit more colour. So I went with that effect. Then the wind go up and the water changed completely. So just about an hour's work on location and a lot more studio work from photos and imagination thereafter.
