This painting is more about the reflections and shadows on the window-board than it is about the roses. Of course the crystal vase is important too. I did some quick block-ins and sketches from life in the kitchen but finished it from photos in the studio. It was the end of November when we plucked the roses and it was still unseasonably mild.
